I get a blue screen with the HP jargon/logo, with the options esc to boot, F11, f10 etc, then, with the disc installed it goes into the recovery manager, I can't Reinsert the disc and try again. Use the up or down arrow key to select the CD/DVD Drive, and then press Enter. I had couple of times like this with my g6 but those worked just fine.

Downloaded a copy of GParted. And this may seem as silly, but try pressing fn+F8 at startup and see whether that takes you to the advanced boot options. After the disc has been repaired, reinsert the disc and try again. My f11 key does not work.
