I do not have a Debian system here, but chances are your problems are also caused by updating bluez. I just plugged in a usb thumbdrive and it is detected and automounted. I plug a USB mouse into a port to work around the issue. I'm not sure what the problem is.

However, there may be some unintended consequences if you do that. Fedora Touchpad Not Detected It uses KDE and may have the bluez. As this problem seems to occur on both Debian and Fedora it is probably generic and not distro related. You can try upstream (gnome) , I am not sure what they would do.
