If the replacement cable does not do the trick, I would look at the power supply unit or a blown e-SATA port.

If you haven't tried already, try using the rear ports and test. Some SATA controllers also contain hot swap support, but some don't - that was not required in the SATA spec's, but IS required of a true eSATA controller. It aint perfect, but it is better than any other OS's in running oddball junk hardware. have a peek at these guys I don't know if AHCI was enabled back in XP but I never turned it off or anything.

I am reading that there are many issues in installing those drivers after the OS is installed. It seems quality cables are a must.

I'd pick the latest version of the driver for your chipset and OS and choose the "eSATA.zip" driver.
